FAQs
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectables designed to replace lost volume in the deeper tissues of the face. They can be used to restore lost volume in our midface, cheeks and jawline, and to soften lines and wrinkles in the areas of the face which may have become slightly deflated over time. The effects should always be subtle – you will look exactly like you, only healthier, more youthful and refreshed. Dr Shabri only uses the very highest quality dermal fillers in Dr Shabri’s clinics and have a gradual approach to restoration – adding the minimal volume required for a desired effect, then adding more sequentially to avoid an overfilled unnatural appearance.
How do dermal fillers work?
The majority of the dermal fillers used in Dr Shabri’s clinics are made from a substance known as Hyaluronic acid, which acts as a structural molecule in our skin and also as a humectant, meaning it binds water molecules to keep our skin hydrated.
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers contain molecules that are bound together by cross-links into cohesive gels, meaning they hold their shape when injected into areas where we aim to replace lost volume. When these are injected strategically under the skin in areas of predictable volume loss, they naturally restore the contours of the face in a subtle way. The body naturally breaks down hyaluronic acid so over time the fillers are reabsorbed safely into the body with no lasting effects.
Dr Shabri occasionally uses Collagen stimulating fillers for areas such as the hands. These function in a similar way to hyaluronic acid fillers but have longer lasting effects due to longer term collagen stimulation.
Are dermal fillers safe?
Yes, when administered by a qualified medical practitioner. Side effects are usually mild and temporary, such as swelling, redness, or bruising. Rare complications, like vascular occlusion, are minimised by using advanced injection techniques and careful planning.
Will dermal fillers make me look unnatural or ‘overdone’?
No — treatments are tailored to your facial anatomy, desired results, and natural proportions. The goal is subtle enhancement, not exaggeration, empowering you with confidence from discreet undetectable treatment. You will look like you, just well-rested and refreshed.
How much dermal filler will I need?
This depends on your anatomy, concerns and goals. Your bespoke treatment plan will outline the best approach, always focusing on natural, balanced results.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Most hyaluronic acid fillers last between 9–18 months, depending on the area treated, type of filler used and your own metabolism. Your treatment plan will outline a recommended maintenance plan to enhance longevity of your results.
Will the treatment hurt?
Most fillers contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, meaning that the area of treatment will feel slightly numb at the time of treatment. Fine needles and gentle techniques further reduce discomfort, making the procedure very comfortable. Once the numb sensation wears off, there is usually no lasting discomfort.
What is the downtime?
There’s usually very little downtime – most clients return to normal activities the following day after treatment. Any swelling or bruising is usually mild and resolves within 4–7 days.
Can it be used with other treatments?
Dermal fillers work extremely well in conjunction with other treatments including Anti-Wrinkle Injections for fine lines and wrinkles, and skin boosters such as Profhilo to rejuvenate the skin itself, and soften the signs of ageing.
How soon will I see results?
Can dermal fillers be removed if I don’t like the results?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved safely using hyaluronidase if necessary, though it is very rare that you will not enjoy your results.
