Hyperhidrosis
(Excessive Sweating)
Excessive sweating is a common condition that goes beyond normal perspiration and can affect the underarms or other areas of the body such as the palms, hands, feet, face, or scalp. Affecting up to 5% of the population, it can cause discomfort, embarrassment, and impact confidence in social or professional situations.
Beyond the physical symptoms, hyperhidrosis can have emotional effects on your quality of life. Many people experience anxiety and self-consciousness, which can sometimes make the sweating worse.
Thankfully, effective treatment options are available to help you regain control and improve your quality of life.
How It Works
Botulinum toxin injections provide an effective solution by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that activate sweat glands in the targeted areas, significantly reducing perspiration, helping you feel more comfortable and confident.
The treatment is minimally invasive and quick to perform, with minimal downtime required.
Results are usually noticeable within a few days, with maximum effect after around 2 weeks, and the results lasting as long as 9-12 months.

FAQs
What causes hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis can be either focal (affecting specific areas like underarms) or generalised (affecting the whole body). Focal hyperhidrosis often begins during adolescence and is a standalone condition, while generalised sweating may indicate an underlying medical issue.
Conditions that can cause secondary sweating include overactive thyroid gland, diabetes, menopause, and other hormonal disorders. If excessive sweating occurs suddenly or affects only one side of the body, further investigation may be recommended.
When will I see results?
You’ll typically notice reduced sweating within 3–7 days, with full results at around 2 weeks.
Will the treatment hurt?
The injections are quick and performed with very fine needles. Discomfort is minimal, and a topical numbing cream can be applied for sensitive areas such as the palms or soles.
Are there side effects?
Common side effects include mild redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site, which resolve quickly. Rarely, temporary muscle weakness may occur in the treated area.
Who is this treatment suitable for?
Anyone struggling with excessive sweating that interferes with daily life, clothing choices or confidence may benefit. However, it is not suitable for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or with certain medical conditions. A medical consultation with Dr Shabri is required prior to treatment.
